Programs¶
Big Nerd Idea Foundation's programs are where the mission becomes real-world delivery — closing the gap in Internet and AI equality and access for the communities most often left on the wrong side of it: people in recovery, reentry, elder care, and houselessness.
We frame this work as Mutual Digital Aid — not charity to a community, but capacity built with it: shared devices, shared skills, and shared infrastructure that keep working under unreliable power, limited connectivity, and tight budgets. This sits alongside the Epistemic Honesty and Sustainability & Carbon Awareness directives as foundational, not incidental.
Validation status:
[HYPOTHESIS]— program outcomes are planning targets and working theories until validated with real participants. Year-1 KPIs are not promises.
Programs¶
| Program | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Second Boot | Hardware recovery + digital-literacy: refurbished devices get a second boot; people get a second chance. (Formerly Toaster Chef IT.) | Phase 0 — Blueprint & Foundation |
More programs will be added here as the Foundation's Mutual Digital Aid work grows.
Relationship to BNI's products¶
Programs are the Foundation's direct, on-the-ground delivery; the Projects (MPowerUP, RlivN, Toaster Chef, …) are the software and platforms that the programs can ride on. For example, awarded Second Boot devices are a natural delivery path for MPowerUP and, later, RlivN — tracked as cross-project integration points, not commitments.
